- Mark Gonzales has the scoop on a potential three-way deal that would send Adrian Gonzalez to the White Sox, Paul Konerko to the Angels, and prospects to the Padres. Mark Whicker of the OC Register thinks that while Konerko is a good fit in Anaheim, the Angels may be inclined to keep their prospects after dealing three good ones to the Rays for Scott Kazmir. I agree with Whicker, and don't see this deal happening. The only two teams I see with a chance to grab Gonzo are the Red Sox and Mariners.
- John Fay reports that the Reds are going to attempt to resign outfielder Jonny Gomes in the next couple of weeks, and the club made an offer to Lance Nix before he fled to the free agent market. Gomes is a huge power hitter, hitting 20 bombs in just over 300 plate appearances with the Reds. His career year came with the Rays in 2005, when he hit .282/.372/.534 with 21 homers in slightly over 400 plate appearances. Gomes is best used as a platoon player against lefties, with a career OPS over 100 points higher against southpaws.
- The Braves, according to David O'Brien, want to add a power bat to their lineup this offseason. They are interested in bringing in....Mark DeRosa. Umm, DeRosa is not a power hitter, despite the 23 homers he hit last year. Look elsewhere, Braves, for your own safety.
