- Over at River Ave Blues, Joe P. looks at the situation involving the starting rotation and Joba/Hughes. The plan seems to have Joba and Hughes in the rotation, but that depends on whether or not Andy Pettitte returns and if the club goes after John Lackey or Roy Halladay. Hughes seems to have more of a future as a starter, with Joba likely being the next closer. However, it's worth a shot to try Joba in the rotation during spring training and evaluating him then. While bullpen arms are easy to find, Yankee fans need to remind themselves of one thing: at the very least, you have two great late inning relievers on your hands.
- MLB.com's Scott Merkin reports that Ozzie Guillen would like to add a hitter to the top of their lineup, and the White Sox have expressed interest in Coco Crisp. Crisp is coming off major surgeries, so it's a risk, but probably one worth taking. Crisp is a good defender in center field, and knows how to take a walk. In my mind, he's a good fit for the White Sox.
- Kelly Thesier of MLB.com said in a mailbag that "the Twins have made their interest in re-signing Pavano very clear this fall. But the question is whether Pavano's asking price will be within the Twins' price range." This makes sense, as he pitched well in Minnesota late last year. However, unless Liriano can return to form as the true ace of their staff, the Twins will need an ace more than they need a back end starter. Look for GM Bill Smith to be very cautious around Pavano, as I see him setting a hard dollar figure the club will not be willing to go over in any circumstance. In the same mailbag, Thesier mentioned that the Twins are interested in Rich Harden. Love that possibility for the Twins. If he's healthy, he gives them the ace they need. If he's not, they have plenty of depth to replace him.
